Every summer, the Midsummer Night Swing takes place at the Lincoln Center in New York City. I became aware of it from work emails and volunteer opportunities. The company I work for has a lot of volunteering events throughout the year, but this one is my favorite because I love to dance. The event is held in Damrosch Park. It's a free event, but there is a ticket price to go on the dance floor.
I went last year for The Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Calypso Rose, and their Disco night. The first two nights, I worked the VIP tent. The last night, I was a dance floor clicker. The night of Calypso Rose, I danced the night away. My mom and aunt came to join me while I was volunteering. I was supposed to be checking tickets and wristbands, but oh well lol.
This year, I went for the nights of Milly Quezada and Conjunto Chappittin y Sus Estrellas. Both are Latin music performers, that I enjoyed very much. My sister and her two friends came for the night of Milly Quezada. The event is organized with a dance lesson with instructors, then DJ's play in between sets, then the performance. I had a ball this year, as usual.
The crowd is almost like a dance-a-thon. You'll see some of the best dancers you've ever seen in your life. And then you'll see someone so off beat but having such a good time. Professional dancers as well as old and young couples come out in their numbers. Even if you go for people watching, you'll still enjoy yourself.
I'll definitely be in attendance next year. More information can be found at http://midsummernightswing.org/
