A Beautiful Nightmare

I turned 30 on the 9th of February, and for years I wanted to do it big for my dirty thirty. I have always been a carnival fanatic and it just so happened that Trinidad Carnival fell on the day of my 30th birthday. I spent a whole year researching the trip of a lifetime; where we would stay, which band we would play with, who would come with me, etc. My 3 best friends came with me and we stayed for a week. I booked my flight in April 2015 for $370. I decided to play with the Dream Team band because their costumes were available to register online plus they were the cheapest.

Overall, the trip was like Murphy's law. Even as things got better, something made things worse. Two of the four parties we bought tickets for got cancelled, but we had fun at the parties we did attend. We hated where we stayed, we never made it to Maracas Beach, pieces of our costume were falling off of us, we didn't get our whole costume, we never did J'Ouvert and we never made it to Tobago. Personally, I would never go back to Trinidad, not for carnival or any other reason.

Hindsight, I was very proud of myself that I made my 30th birthday dream come true. I honestly had the time of my life on the road on carnival Tuesday.
